Ligament Filler vs Regular HA Filler: What’s the Difference?
By Dr. IM JUNHYUNG · Updated
At a glance
| Regular HA filler | Fills the hollow itself — lips, chin, folds |
| Ligament filler | Supports the anchor points — mid-cheek, temple, jawline |
| Product | Often firmer (high-G′) gel for ligament work |
| Total volume | Often less for ligament work, placed in small amounts |
Same material, different strategy
The gel may be similar; the plan is not. Filling a nasolabial fold directly can look heavy, while supporting the cheek above it can soften the fold indirectly.
When regular filler is better
Lips, chin projection and small, defined hollows are often best treated directly.
When ligament filler is better
When several areas look tired at once because support has dropped, reinforcing the anchor points can be more natural.
Why it matters for visitors
Whichever approach, choose dissolvable hyaluronic acid when you won’t be nearby for follow-up.
FAQ
Is ligament filler more expensive?
Not necessarily — it depends on product and total volume, which is often smaller.
Can both be done in one visit?
Yes, often.
